A Month With the Tiger · Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, Maharashtra
For one entire month, Pushpendra makes Tadoba his permanent field base. Rather than visiting for a few rushed safaris, he spends the month returning to the same landscape across 6 exclusive batches—documenting individual tigers, dynamic behaviour, and the stories that unfold over repeated drives.
Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra represents the beating heart of India’s tiger heartland. Its dry deciduous forests, perennial water bodies, and rich herbivore prey base support one of the densest wild tiger populations on Earth. By basing himself in the park for the full month of February, Pushpendra tracks territorial dynamics day after day, deciphering alarm calls and staging vehicles in optimal light angles for breathtaking wildlife photography.
Morning pickup from Nagpur Airport (or railway station) and private air-conditioned transit to our jungle resort near Tadoba gate (approx. 2.5 hours). Check-in, lunch, and orientation on park etiquette. Embark on an afternoon buffer zone safari focusing on territorial boundaries. Return for an evening tiger behaviour discussion.
Enter the core zone at first light as mist rises from the Tadoba lake. Listen intently for Sambhar and Chital alarm calls signaling predator movement. Position near natural waterholes where tigers often cool off during morning warming. Midday lunch and telephoto composition clinic. Late afternoon safari until park closure.
Full exploration of alternate park ranges (Moharli, Kolara or Navegaon) known for active family packs and sub-adult dispersal. Study maternal vigilance, scent marking, and hunting strategies. Evening review of the day’s raw captures on large displays with technical feedback.
Morning and afternoon drives targeting elusive dhole packs, Asiatic sloth bears digging for termites, and apex male tigers patrolling their extensive borders. Capture dramatic back-lit portraits through golden teak foliage.
Early morning final safari to seek that one lasting frame. Return to the lodge for a hearty brunch, pack equipment, and board private vehicles for transfer back to Nagpur Airport for evening flights home.
“Most commercial tiger safaris are frantic races between Gypsies. Pushpendra’s expedition was the polar opposite. We anticipated movement based on alarm calls, stayed patient at dry riverbeds, and were rewarded with intimate sightings of a tigress with her cubs in golden evening light.”
Every expedition is hosted in small groups with personal attention to detail. Let Pushpendra know your preferred dates, group size, and specific wildlife or photographic goals.
