Stories From the Wild

Field Films · Natural History · Human Stories

Some stories are best told through words.

Others need silence, movement, footprints, a shepherd waiting beside his animals, or a leopard disappearing into the granite at dusk.

My documentaries are an attempt to record those moments — the wildlife, the people and the relationship between them.

Rabari: The People of the Leopard

A story from the landscape where pastoral life and wild leopards exist side by side.

For generations, the Rabari communities of Jawai have moved through a landscape shared with predators. Their livestock feeds their families; the surrounding hills provide shelter to leopards.

The story is not simply about the leopard.

It is about the people who live with it.

It is about loss, tolerance, fear, respect and the extraordinary possibility of coexistence between a pastoral community and one of India's most elusive predators.

Queens of Jawai

The female leopard is at the centre of the Jawai story.

She raises cubs among granite caves, crosses pastoral landscapes, negotiates human presence and teaches the next generation how to survive.

Queens of Jawai follows the lives of these remarkable females — their territories, families, struggles and the intelligence required to survive in one of India's most unusual wildlife landscapes.

✦ A YEAR IN THE GRANITE

Jawai Journal

A continuing natural-history record of Jawai.

Month by month, I document what is happening across the hills — leopard sightings, individual animals, behaviour, cubs, seasons and the changing landscape.

Rather than telling one story after one safari, Jawai Journal follows the landscape over time.

One month. One field journal. One living ecosystem.

✦ HIMALAYAN WILDERNESS · HIGH ALTITUDE

Searching for the Ghost of Spiti

High above the tree line, wildlife photography becomes an exercise in patience.

The mountains are vast. The temperatures are unforgiving. The animal may appear for only a few seconds.

My journey into Spiti is a search for one of India's most elusive predators — the snow leopard — and for the landscape, people and prey species that make its survival possible.

This documentary follows that journey from the field.
